In the world of Pennsylvania field hockey, one name stood out above the rest in 2022: Wyoming Seminary. Under the expert guidance of Coach Karen Klassner, the program notched an impressive record of over 700 wins and clinched 10 state titles, producing a legacy filled with All-Americans, collegiate stars, and even Olympic athletes. Known for its exceptional coaching and unparalleled culture, Wyoming Seminary was recognized as a powerhouse in the sport.
Among the talents that adorned the field in that memorable year were four exceptional players—Emma Wachilla, Ella Barbacci, Isabella Pisano, and Maddie Olshemski. Coach Klassner, in a glowing interview, lauded them as some of the most talented athletes to ever don the school’s jersey. These leaders spearheaded a team that dominated with three consecutive state titles. However, their final year was marked by an unforeseen upset in the district championship against Wyoming Area, ultimately dashing their hopes for a fourth straight title.
Yet, the legacy of these four athletes continues, as they forge their paths in collegiate field hockey. Ella Barbacci made headlines as part of the North Carolina University team and was recently crowned National Champions. Emma Wachilla has taken her talents to the University of Virginia, where she quickly made a name for herself by appearing in 18 games as a freshman. Maddie Olshemski has transferred to Rutgers University and is looking to make an immediate impact in her new environment. Finally, Isabella Pisano, known for her elite fitness level, is at Temple University coming off a redshirt season, gearing up to showcase her skills for the Owls.
As the dust settles on a remarkable chapter for Wyoming Seminary field hockey, the legacy of these players shines bright, continuing to inspire future generations on and off the field.
