As we move into Week 8, there have been some notable shifts in the District 4 Big School Top 5 rankings. The biggest change comes at the #5 spot, while the top four teams continue to hold their positions after key matchups in Week 7. Here’s a breakdown of the movement from Week 7 to Week 8.
1. Shamokin (#1)
Shamokin remains at the top after defeating Williamsport 28-16 in Week 7, their grip on the #1 spot is as strong as ever. Their consistent performances on both offense and defense have solidified their place as the team to beat in District 4.
2. Jersey Shore (#2)
Jersey Shore holds onto the #2 spot despite a narrow loss to Hollidaysburg (27-25). Although the defeat was a setback, their strong overall record keeps them securely in the second position. They’ll need to bounce back in Week 8 to prevent any further slippage in the rankings.
3. Selinsgrove (#3)
Selinsgrove stays at #3 following a 14-7 victory over Shikellamy. While their offense struggled at times, their defense came through in the clutch, securing the win. Selinsgrove continues to show resilience and consistency as they battle for a top-two spot.
4. Williamsport (#4)
Williamsport remains at #4 despite a tough loss to the #1 ranked Shamokin. Their 28-16 defeat highlighted some areas for improvement, but they still showed enough competitiveness to retain their position in the top 5. A solid rebound in Week 8 could give them momentum moving forward.
5. Athens (#5)
The most significant change from Week 7 to Week 8 is at the #5 spot. Athens takes over this position after a strong showing in previous weeks, despite a tough loss to Towanda in Week 7. Their inclusion in the top 5 shows that, despite the defeat, they’ve done enough this season to earn recognition as one of the top teams in District 4.
