Dallas Mountaineers Dominate Wyoming Valley West in 35-6 Victory
October 6, 2024 — Dallas, PA — The Dallas Mountaineers extended their winning streak to two games with a commanding 35-6 win over Wyoming Valley West on Friday night. The Mountaineers were sharp in all phases of the game, riding a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defense to victory.
Quarterback Brady Zapoticky led the offense with precision, throwing for 192 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Gavin Lewis was unstoppable on the ground, rushing for 143 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries. The Mountaineers’ offense was efficient and balanced, amassing over 400 yards of total offense.
The defense was equally impressive, holding Wyoming Valley West to just 6 points and forcing three turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown by defensive back Michael Farrell. Linebacker Sean Kelly led the defensive effort with 10 tackles and a sack, anchoring a unit that allowed just 200 total yards.
Dallas started strong with a pair of first-quarter touchdowns. Zapoticky connected with wide receiver Mason Kordek for a 25-yard touchdown to open the scoring. Gavin Lewis then broke free for a 50-yard touchdown run on the next drive, giving Dallas an early 14-0 lead.
Wyoming Valley West’s only score came in the second quarter, but the Mountaineers responded with another touchdown pass from Zapoticky to Kordek, making it 21-6 at halftime. Dallas continued to pile on in the second half, with Farrell’s pick-six and a late rushing touchdown by backup running back Jake McCormick sealing the victory.
Head coach Rich Mannello praised his team’s effort after the game. “The guys executed our game plan perfectly. We’ve been working on our consistency, and tonight we put it all together,” Mannello said.
The Mountaineers improved to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the Wyoming Valley Conference, keeping them in the hunt for a playoff spot. They will look to continue their momentum next week when they face off against Crestwood.
