The stage was set for a thrilling showdown in the 52nd Annual Pete Turonis Holiday Classic Championship as the unbeaten Valley View Cougars faced off against the Mid Valley Spartans. What began as a tightly contested battle turned into a second-half statement from the Cougars, who emerged victorious with a 47-35 win to claim their third consecutive tournament title.
The first half showcased intense competition, with the Spartans keeping pace and trailing by just two points at the intermission. But Valley View came out of halftime with an undeniable sense of purpose, executing on both ends of the court to break the game open.
Key Performers
Leading the charge for Valley View was Noah Veno, whose team-high 13 points set the tone for the Cougars' offense. Aiden Smola added 12 points with timely buckets, while Nick Kucharski chipped in 10 points to round out the balanced attack.
On the Spartans' side, star guard Demaja Dunston proved why he’s one of the leagues best, leading all scorers with 14 points. Despite his efforts and a gritty eight-point performance from Jakob Lesher, who battled Valley View’s size all night, Mid Valley couldn’t keep pace with the Cougars' second-half surge.
Victory Sealed
Valley View’s dominance in the latter half was driven by relentless defense and precision on offense, a combination that left the Spartans struggling to regain momentum. The Cougars’ poise under pressure and balanced scoring proved too much to handle, securing yet another trophy for their collection.
