In 2015, Bob Beviglia was named head basketball coach of the Scranton Prep Classics. During his tenure, the team has achieved nine state playoff berths, seven district titles and 11 state playoff wins, including an appearance in last year's PIAA 4A State Championship. Sunday however, marked yet another milestone for arguably the most accomplished girls basketball coach in District 2, as he picked up his 200 win. The win also secured another Lynett Tournament championship, as the Classics knocked off the Scranton Lady Knights 56-41 in the final. The win marks the third Lynett victory for Scranton Prep since Beviglia took over in 2019, and their second in the last three seasons.

The key to success for the Classics has been their starting core of five seniors, all of whom played a key role in last year’s state runner-up team. Ashlyn Moore, Maya Jenkins, Claire McGrath, Jenna Hillebrand and Bella Dennebaum, who was named tournament MVP, all played a part in the team’s win. Hillebrand led all scorers with 15 points, and Jenkins and McGrath both had nine. The Classics also got production out of their bench, with Ava Fenton, Trinity Litts, Eva Kaszuba, and Chloe Mamera each adding two points of their own in meaningful minutes. The Classics have nine players they trust in their rotation, which could help them get back to Hershey in their quest for gold.

For Scranton, their offense was led by Chrissy Jacklinski, who had 13 points in the game. Of her 13 points, five came in the first quarter, which ended with a score of 14-10 in favor of the Classics. The score only widened, particularly in the third quarter when Prep took a 43-31 lead into the final frame. Neither of these teams will have to wait long for round two, as they are scheduled to face off on January 3 at Scranton High School. The two teams will meet for a third time at Scranton Prep on January 27.
