Abington Heights Clinches Lackawanna League Division I Boys Soccer Championship with 5-0 Win Over Scranton
Abington Heights secured the Lackawanna League Division I boys soccer championship with a dominant 5-0 victory over Scranton on Wednesday at Abington Heights.
Michael Hiller led the way for the Comets, recording a hat trick to propel his team to the title. Hiller opened the scoring at the 27:37 mark with an assist from Jack Leuthe and doubled his tally 11 minutes later, this time assisted by Aiden Gardner.
In the second half, Hiller completed his hat trick with a goal assisted by Joey Pivirotto just 58 seconds after the break. Nico Bustos added to the lead with a goal off a pass from Justin Kim at the 44:50 mark, and Pivirotto capped the scoring with a goal of his own just five minutes later.
Abington Heights outshot Scranton 20-3 and dominated corners, 5-2. Goalie Billy Johnson recorded one save for the Comets, while Scranton’s Jason Cox made seven saves in the loss.
With this win, Abington Heights improved to 15-3 overall and 13-1 in the league, while Scranton fell to 3-12 overall and 2-12 in league play.
