Abington Heights Blanks Delaware Valley, 4-0, to Stay Atop Division I Standings
Abington Heights continued their dominant season with a 4-0 shutout victory over Delaware Valley on Monday, solidifying their spot at the top of the Lackawanna League Division I standings.
The Comets, now 12-1 in the division and 14-3 overall, received goals from Michael Hiller, Joey Pivirotto, and James Mitchell to secure the win. With this result, Abington Heights maintains a one-game lead over Scranton Prep in Division I and continues to lead the District 2 Class 3A power ratings with a .723 mark. North Pocono (.703), Dallas (.695), and Valley View (.564) have also clinched playoff spots in the classification, which takes the top eight teams for the postseason.
Abington Heights controlled the game throughout, outshooting Delaware Valley 9-4 and earning five corners to Delaware Valley’s two. Comets goalkeeper Johnson made four saves to preserve the shutout, while Delaware Valley’s Peerboom recorded five saves in the loss.
Delaware Valley, now 7-6 in the division and 11-6 overall, struggled to find opportunities against a stout Abington Heights defense.
The Comets will finish their regular season on Wednesday when they host Scranton, looking to clinch the division title.
