The Misericordia Cougars roll into Annville this weekend for a pivotal MAC matchup with Lebanon Valley, and there’s a different feel surrounding this group. Under first-year head coach Steve Cushing, the Cougars have started 3-1 behind a mix of discipline, physicality, and belief. Quarterback Jacob Hunter has been the steady hand guiding the offense — throwing for over 600 yards and showing his dual-threat ability with a 46-yard rushing day and touchdown against Widener. Junior running back Maurice Franklin has helped power a ground game that’s totaled more than 650 rushing yards and nine touchdowns through four contests, while senior lineman Zach Anspach continues to set the tone defensively up front.

Lebanon Valley enters unbeaten in conference play and brings a balanced attack that averages more than 25 points per game while allowing just over 20. The Flying Dutchmen have historically controlled this series, including last season’s 20-9 win, but this isn’t the same Misericordia team. The Cougars’ offense has found rhythm and balance, averaging over 31 points per game, and their defense has forced seven interceptions through four games. That combination of offensive variety and defensive opportunism gives Misericordia a chance to make noise against one of the MAC’s most consistent programs.

What makes this matchup meaningful goes beyond the standings. Cushing and his staff have brought a new level of accountability — practices are sharper, players are more composed, and the team’s physical edge is noticeable. The Cougars are playing with a chip on their shoulder, eager to prove they belong among the conference’s best. Saturday’s clash at Lebanon Valley is more than just another game; it’s a measuring stick for a program that’s clearly trending upward.
