SCRANTON, Pa. — The energy inside the Holy Rosary Center was all heart, hustle, and hoops as Gorilla Mindset Training hosted its Columbus Day Girls Varsity Open Run, a showcase of pure competition, community, and love for the game.
Athletes from programs the include Scranton, Wyoming Seminary, Hazleton, North Pocono, Hanover, Berwick, Valley View, and Riverside among others hit the floor for a day that was about more than basketball it was about connection.
For many of these players, it was a chance to meet, compete, and build relationships outside of their school walls before the season tips off. No pressure. No rankings. Just good runs, positive energy, and mutual respect for the grind.
At the heart of it all was Everett Alers, founder of Gorilla Mindset Training, whose passion for growing the girls game in Northeast PA continues to shine through.
“These girls love the game just like anyone else,” Alers said. “They work hard, they have goals, and they deserve spaces like this to come together and play. It’s about building up the girls basketball community and showing that District 2 girls can really hoop.”
Alers hopes to make events like this a consistent part of the local basketball culture, a safe, competitive space where girls can build chemistry, confidence, and camaraderie heading into the season and after.
District 2’s talent runs deep and if this open run was any sign, the future of girls basketball in Northeast PA is in great hands.
