Valley View Tops Honesdale 4-2 in Division I Match
Valley View secured a 4-2 victory over Honesdale in a hard-fought Division I soccer match on Monday, with four different Cougars finding the back of the net. Andrew Burman opened the scoring for Valley View at the 19:52 mark Assisted by Billy Giovagnoli, followed by a goal from Jagger Roe at 35:53, giving the Cougars a 2-0 lead heading into halftime. Honesdale responded early in the second half when Ryan Brescia scored just over a minute after play resumed at 46:31, cutting Valley View’s lead to 2-1. However, the Cougars regained control as Jacob Bekele struck at 56:37, followed by a goal from Braden Loff, assisted by Hunter Kissel, at 63:34 to extend Valley View’s lead to 4-1. Honesdale continued to fight, with Owen Pender converting a pass from Owen Parenti at the 70:35 mark to bring the final score to 4-2. Despite their effort, Honesdale couldn’t overcome the deficit. Valley View dominated the game statistically, outshooting Honesdale 21-10 and earning six corners to Honesdale’s zero. Cougar goalkeeper Patrick Sherman made five saves, while Honesdale’s Schweighofer tallied 11 saves in a busy match for him.
With the win, Valley View improved to 9-7-1 on the season, while Honesdale fell to 2-14-1.
