Valley View Overcomes Slow Start to Secure 35-10 Win Over Wyoming Valley West

Wyoming Valley West made an early statement Friday night, driving down the field on their opening possession and claiming a lead against Valley View. The Spartans, still seeking their first win of the season, caught the Cougars off guard and even forced a quick three-and-out after their opening score, raising the energy in the stands.

However, the momentum was short-lived, as Valley View quickly regrouped and took control of the game, scoring on their next three drives and coasting to a 35-10 victory in the nonconference matchup at John Henzes/Veterans Memorial Stadium. The win pushed the Cougars to an 8-1 record, while Wyoming Valley West dropped to 0-9.

Nick Kucharski powered Valley View’s offense with 143 rushing yards and a touchdown, while quarterback Zach Cwalinski threw for two touchdowns. Kicker Braden Loff was reliable as ever, converting all five of his extra point attempts. The night was also special for seniors Jack Kovack and Joey Valvano, who both notched their first career touchdowns.

Wyoming Valley West capitalized on the opportunity, driving 64 yards in eight plays to open the scoring, with quarterback Carson Brown sneaking in for a 1-yard touchdown. Roger Staron’s extra point gave the Spartans a 7-0 lead, marking their first lead of the season.

Valley View responded late in the first quarter when Preston Reed capped off an eight-play, 57-yard drive with a 3-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7. Early in the second quarter, Cwalinski connected with Beyon McLean for a spectacular 32-yard touchdown catch, as McLean made an acrobatic grab in the end zone to give the Cougars a 14-7 advantage.  From there, Valley View maintained control, piling on the points and securing a comfortable victory as they continue their strong season.
