The District 4 Big School Top 5 rankings saw some shakeups after a competitive Week 5, with Shamokin maintaining its top spot, but key changes in the middle of the rankings, as Selinsgrove edged out Williamsport in a thrilling head-to-head battle.
Shamokin Remains Unstoppable at #1
For the second week in a row, Shamokin held firm at #1, continuing their season-long dominance. Their Week 5 matchup against Central Mountain turned into a one-sided affair, with Shamokin delivering a jaw-dropping 76-0 victory. With such an emphatic performance, they have secured their place at the top of the rankings, proving to be a force in District 4 football.
Jersey Shore Solidifies #2 Ranking
Coming in at #2 again for Week 6 is Jersey Shore, who also posted an impressive performance in Week 5. Their 63-13 win over Shikellamy showed they can keep pace with Shamokin in the race for District 4 supremacy. Jersey Shore’s dominance across the board has them entrenched as a top contender as we move deeper into the season.
Selinsgrove’s Narrow Victory Pushes Them to #3
The most notable change in the Week 6 rankings is Selinsgrove climbing from #4 to #3, thanks to their hard-fought 21-20 win over Williamsport. In what was arguably the most exciting game of Week 5, Selinsgrove managed to hold off Williamsport in the closing moments, securing the win and earning themselves a higher spot in the rankings. Their ability to win close games speaks to the grit and resilience of the team.
Williamsport Slips to #4
For Williamsport, the loss to Selinsgrove came at a cost, as they drop from #3 to #4 in the Week 6 rankings. While the game could have gone either way, the narrow defeat puts them behind their Week 5 rivals, though Williamsport’s strong season overall keeps them within striking distance in the rankings. They’ll need to rebound quickly to keep pace with the top teams in District 4.
Athens Holds Steady at #5
Rounding out the top 5 is Athens, who remains in the #5 spot despite a tough 16-14 loss to North Penn-Mansfield. While the loss was a setback, Athens’ strong performances earlier in the season have kept them in the top 5. The team will need to bounce back in Week 6 to maintain their place in the rankings and fend off any challengers looking to break into the top 5.
Looking Ahead:
As the season progresses, Shamokin and Jersey Shore continue to separate themselves from the rest of the pack, but the real battle is in the middle of the rankings. With Selinsgrove and Williamsport trading blows, the fight for positioning remains tight. Athens will need to shake off their Week 5 loss if they want to stay competitive in the top 5.
As we move toward the next set of games, all eyes will be on the teams vying to challenge the top spots. Will anyone be able to dethrone Shamokin or Jersey Shore? And can Williamsport bounce back to reclaim their #3 spot? The race for District 4 supremacy is heating up, and Week 6 promises even more drama on the field.
Stay tuned as the rankings continue to evolve in the coming weeks!
